Colin is an independent consultant and photographer. He has wide experience in community development and empowerment having been a practitioner, a manager of a large local authority CD team, teacher, lecturer and government policy advisor.
Colin has worked with a wide range of neighbourhoods as well a communities of identity. He has extensive experience in project development and management including large neighbourhood regeneration projects. He has also been involved in the development of national policy and research having worked for the Home Office as a policy advisor and made important contributions to the The Community Development Challenge, CLG, 2006 and other initiatives.
He has particular interest in developing and improving empowerment practice and management and systems and organisational theory. His book on managing community development (Management, Towards High Standards in Community Development, CDF, 2008) was the first of its kind in the UK. He is also co-author of Rethinking Community Practice, to be published by Policy Press, in 2013 (Feb) and co-director of PACES Empowerment.
